Before You Start
- Follow your surgeon/clinician’s guidance for showering and wound care.
- Check that dressings are secure and that the zipper and hook-and-loop (Velcro®) closures are clean for a better seal.
Step-by-step (Shower)
- Put on the garment
- Place your arms into the sleeves and let The Shower Shirt® fall comfortably over your torso.
- Secure drains / tubing (if applicable)
- Place surgical drains into the internal pockets.
- Gather any tubing slack and loop it neatly around internal straps so it’s supported and less likely to tug.
- Close the zipper
- Zip the zipper fully to the top (up to the area just under the jawline).
- Cover the zipper
- Smooth the Velcro® flap over the zipper and press closed for added protection.
- Seal the neckline comfortably
- Tie the drawstring snugly around the neck opening.
- Fasten the cinch strap for a secure fit.
- Important: Snug is enough—do not overtighten. You should be able to breathe and move comfortably.
Helpful Shower Tips (Recommended)
- When washing hair: For extra precaution, lean forward while rinsing to reduce the chance of water running toward the neckline.
- Avoid direct spray: Try not to aim the shower stream directly at the neckline/zipper area.
- After showering: Wipe the outside of the garment dry (especially near the neckline and zipper) before removing it to help minimize drips onto sensitive areas.
Dialysis Patients
This section is specific to dialysis access—please follow your nephrology team’s instructions.
Hemodialysis catheter (typically under the collarbone)
You may pull the sleeves up and over the shoulder area and lift the bottom of the garment slightly above the breast area, as long as the catheter site near the collarbone remains covered and protected.
Bathing notice: The Shower Shirt® is designed for showering only and is not intended for bath use or full-body immersion.
